Home Security Tips While on Vacation

You’ve worked hard for months on end and you’ve set aside enough money to bring your whole family on a well-deserved vacation. Perhaps a nice camping trip, or maybe even a trip out of the country?

After a long-awaited holiday, the last thing you want to happen is to come home and see that your house has been ransacked by a burglar. Fortunately, there are many steps you can take to ensure the safety of your home and the peace of mind you need to enjoy your vacation:

Set timers

Leaving lights on 24/7 is a screaming sign to burglars that your home is unoccupied. Deter would-be burglars by purchasing timers that turn your lights and several appliances on and off following a set schedule. This will make it appear that there is someone home.

Install a new security door

One of the most common entry points used by burglars is your front door. This is especially true for doors that have glass panels around them. If your budget allows it, you may have a security door added to your home.

Trim shrubbery

Trim tall shrubs and the like situated near your windows and doors. Foliage can easily block the line of sight of passers-by, providing burglars ample time to break through a locked door or window.
